Texas Holdem – Reading Hands

When you play one of the preferred hands mentioned before, and the dealer turns up the flop, when you compare your two cards with the three community cards in the middle of the table. You need to ask yourself the following questions:
  1. What is my hand now?
  2. What are the nuts?
  3. Do I have any draws?
  4. Are there any other draws that an opponent might have?
  5. What cards would I like to come on the turn and river?
  6. Did I get a large enough flop to make it worthwhile for me to continue with the hand past the flop?
  7. What do the other players have and how did they act on their hands?
Let’s say that you liked your hand on the flop, and called any bets. The dealer turns up the turn. Ask yourself these questions:
  1. Did it help my hand?
  2. Did it hurt my hand?
  3. Are there any new draws?
  4. Did any draws get there?
  5. What is the betting mood?, what do the other players likely to have?
  6. Does my hand is worth continuing with.
Let’s say that you called all bets on the turn. The dealer turns up the river as all actions are completed. Since this is the last community card, you won’t be getting any more cards and this will be the final betting round. After this betting round all the remaining hands will be turned face up, and a winner declared.

You need to ask yourself a few questions:
  1. What do I have?
  2. What are the nuts?
  3. What do the other players likely to have?
