Texas Holdem – Introduction & RulesTexas Holdem is one of the most popular Poker game variations, apparently it is also the easiest game to learn but still difficult to master. It’s usually the game you see all the pro’s playing. The game is played with all kinds of limits online; limit, no limit or pot limit. In Texas Holdem, players are dealt two down - cards that only they can see and use. After everyone receives these cards, there is a round of betting known as preflop betting. Players are betting on the quality of their two down-cards. The game is split into four rounds of betting, and the game moves clockwise around the table. Betting starts from the player position next to the dealer button, which moves one place to the left after each hand. In online games, the dealer button replaces the 'real' dealer. Three ‘community’ cards are dealt in the middle of the table that everyone can see and use with their hand. This is known as the Flop Players can make their five-card hand from both, one or none of their hole cards in combination with the community cards. For example: if I had Ace + Prince down and my friend had Ace + Queen down, and the board is Ace + Prince + 2 I had two pairs (Ace+Prince) and my fiend had one pair of Aces. After the flop betting, a fourth community card is dealt. This is known as the turn. There is another round of betting. After this, the final community card is dealt: the river card. After this card is dealt, there is a final round of betting. Each player has two personal cards and five cards are shared with the other players. When a player makes his best hand, he does so with any of the 7 cards. It is possible to use one, two, or none of your own cards to make your hand (if you use none of your own cards, that means you are using only community cards and you can only hope for a tie). |
